“Never forget where you came from... You didn't get to where you are today by yourself, and no matter what status you accomplish in life, you should assume the responsibility to help those who are less fortunate than you.” - Tim Wakefield

Special Olympics Massachusetts

After volunteering for indoor hockey and basketball clinics in Dorchester, I contacted the nonprofit's marketing and media production managers to pitch story ideas.

In support of the organization's goal to grow the Special Olympics MA footprint in Boston and surrounding gateway cities, I wrote the following stories to grow awareness among Greater Boston families and community partners:

As a ‘buddy’ at Sunday morning hockey clinics at the Boys & Girls Club of Dorchester, I guided athletes through stretching, stick handling, weaving, passing and shooting drills.

Additionally, I drove fundraising for Special Olympics MA by volunteering to sell 50/50 raffle tickets with the Boston Bruins Foundation during a Boston Bruins home game at TD Garden.

Little League International

While working for Little League International’s Marketing and Communications team, I supported multimedia campaigns and the organization's development in communities around the world.

My efforts illustrated the physical, social and mental health benefits children and teens enjoy by participating in Little League Baseball and Little League Softball programs.

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund

Each year, I support Dana-Farber's unrelenting commitment to striking out cancer by volunteering at the cancer institute's community fundraising events. These settings include Fenway Park, the Boston Common and the Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl at Boston City Hall Plaza.

In 2023 and 2024, I welcomed patients, families, donors and healthcare providers to Fenway Park at Jimmy Fund Day at FenwayInteracting with these guests, I led participants through a tour of the visitor's clubhouse and tossed batting practice sessions in cages beneath the grandstands. I also guided participants to the field for once-in-a-lifetime fielding and batting sessions at Fenway Park.

Additionally, I volunteered at the 2023 Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk Finish Line by stocking and distributing food and beverages to event participants, donors and families. The following year, I served on the 'Green Team' at the Jimmy Fund Walk by monitoring the Boston Common for waste items, separating recyclable items from nonrecyclable items, and kindly informing participants of event guidelines.

Good Sports, Inc.

Given my passion for youth sports, I enjoyed volunteering at the Good Sports warehouse in Braintree, Massachusetts, to increase children's access to physical activity.

Among a small but mighty crew each volunteer shift, I prepared sports equipment ranging from Rawlings softball bats to Curry Brand/Under Armour apparel for shipment to high-need communities.

Camp SAY

At Camp SAY, I contributed to an environment that empowered children who stutter ages 6 to 18 to enhance self-esteem and express themselves without hesitation.

Collaborating with camp directors and counselors, I coordinated confidence-building activities, managed outdoor events, distributed mail from parents, and filled in for overnight bunk counselors. Providing 24-hour care to more than 200 children, I proactively communicated with camp staff to fulfill camp-wide tasks, maximizing the experience of every child.

Cocky's Reading Express

Volunteering with the University of South Carolina's literacy outreach program, I visited elementary schools throughout South Carolina with university mascot Cocky and fellow volunteers.

At the schools, we read children's books aloud while Cocky acted out the stories to promote childhood literacy and encourage children to become lifelong learners.

Coming from a family of teachers, I enjoyed interacting with children and their caregivers and supporting higher education by being part of a young child's potential first interaction with a university.

Boston University Giving Day 2025: Center For Stuttering Therapy Fund

For BU Giving Day 2025, I wrote and outlined the page for the first-ever Center for Stuttering Therapy Giving Day Fund.

Contributions go directly toward the hiring and training of additional specialized supervisors to advance the Center's strategic goal of expanding community reach.

This includes increased availability of individual therapy and diagnostic services, more frequent teen group meetings, an inaugural parent support group, and year-round clinical resources in response to growing client demand. All CST services prioritize empowering individuals to be competent and confident communicators.

Since opening its doors in the early 1980s, the Center for Stuttering Therapy has provided high quality and ever-evolving speech therapy. Through a holistic approach, the CST delivers client-driven programs to enhance quality of life for people who stutter of all ages – all at no cost to the clients and families.

Allen University

Working for the athletic department at Allen University granted me opportunities to grow the department's digital media infrastructure during the historically Black university's transition to Division II of the NCAA.

My supervisors sought a creative student from the UofSC journalism school to support this formative step for the university, and I enjoyed enhancing community awareness and support toward Allen University Athletics.

I remain grateful for my mentors providing me a hands-on learning environment and Yellow Jackets student-athletes trusting me to tell their stories and promote their accomplishments early in my PR career.

Boston University's Sargent College of Health & Rehabilitative Sciences

Supporting the Center for Stuttering Therapy at Boston University, I welcomed advocate Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to campus for a guest lecture.

Michael visited students and faculty in the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program as part of his outreach with US. universities, children's hospitals and elected officials.

To position the university as a leader in stuttering research and community engagement, I wrote the Sargent College story spotlighting Michael's visit. I profiled his professional journey to founder of Change & Impact, Inc. from Kentucky Wildcats NCAA champion and No. 2 overall NBA draft selection by the Charlotte Bobcats and owner Michael Jordan.

Above all, I illustrated Michael and the university's shared commitment to expanding healthcare access, insurance coverage for speech therapy and clinical resources for citizens who stutter across the United States.
